Block
mountains and rift valleys are formed when plate
movements pull and stretch rocks which are some distance
from the plate edges. This cracks and produces faults. Some blocks on land sink down between faults to form deep valleys. Other blocks are pushed up between faults. They become block mountains. Examples include the Sierra Nevada in the western U.S.A. |
